Dr Oz Eat Curry Prevent Alzheimer’s Disease

Dr.Oz’s number one suggestion — eat curry once or twice a week to help prevent Alzheimer’s disease……

Dr Oz mentioned that every 70 seconds someone is diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. By the time you finish reading this article several more people will be suffering from Alzheimer’s. Another group of Alzheimer’s caregivers will come into being.
Dr Oz said:
  • Alzheimer’s is a long slow death sentence.
  • In the future, either you get it, or know someone that has it (Alzheimer’s).

Professor Doraiswamy said: “There is very solid evidence that curcumin binds to plaques, and basic research on animals engineered to produce human amyloid plaques has shown benefits. Turmeric has been studied not just in Alzheimer’s research but for a variety of conditions, such as cancer and arthritis. Turmeric is often referred to as the spice of life in ancient Indian medical lore.”

Stepping Up the Science on Botanical Supplements and Health

Amplify’d from blogs.wsj.com

The federal government is stepping up research into the safety and effectiveness of over-the-counter supplements known as botanicals, including St. John’s wort, elderberry, soy and plant oils, according to today’s Informed Patient column.

The National Institutes of Health is funding five dietary supplement research centers to the tune of more than $37 million for the next five years, primarily through its National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine. That will build on a research program that has awarded more than $250 million in related grants over the last decade. Though the center has been criticized for wasting federal funds on dubious research, scientists delving into botanicals say there is enough evidence of potential health benefits to warrant further study.

Video: Pollinator research ramps up as bee colony numbers decline

Video: Pollinator research ramps up as bee colony numbers decline

In the last several years, beekeepers across the country have seen the overall number of pollinator bee colonies drop dramatically. By each winter’s end, about 3 out of every 10 colonies die out. The reasons are numerous, but many look at the use of pesticides as a main cause. To make matters worse, in 2006 an apiary owner in Lewisburg, Pa., alerted Penn State researchers of a new problem, now known as Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD). This mysterious condition causes massive numbers of honeybee colonies vanish without any trace. “Honeybees and other pollinating insects are essential because they are responsible for one out of every three bites of food you eat,” said Diana Cox-Foster, Penn State professor of entomology. “More than 80 percent of all flowering plants depend on our pollinators for survival.” Cox-Foster and other Penn State experts’ responses to threats against pollinator survival led them to host the first International Conference on Pollinator Biology, Health and Policy, held July 24-28, 2010, at Penn State’s University Park campus. In addition, the University founded a new Center for Pollinator Research. In this video, hear from the pollinator who discovered the disorder and from entomology experts trying to determine what is threatening the future of pollinating insects — and, ultimately, much of our nation’s domestic food supply.
